Our speech and language therapy service for adults provides a range of support.
Our specialist speech and language therapists (SLTs) are experts in:
- communication disorders
- voice disorders
- respiratory disorders
- swallowing disorders
All SLTs:
- have completed degree level training
- are registered with the Health and Care Professionals Council (HCPC)
- are members of the Royal College of Speech & Language Therapists (RCSLT).
Assistants, administrators and students support our SLTs. We often work with different teams of health professionals. We may offer joint assessments to help give you joined-up care.
If you or your relative has a learning disability, contact SLTadultlearningdisability
You can also ring 0191 293 3049 and ask for a learning disability SLT to give you a call back.
Your care
Our speech and language therapists can see you in different places including:
- outpatient clinics in our general and community hospitals
- nursing and residential homes
- in your own home
We will do an assessment and develop a tailored programme of support and therapy.
If you have a query about a patient staying at 1 of our hospitals, please contact the ward directly.
Your GP or another health professional can refer you to our services. In some cases, you can self-refer. Please click on the correct service page above for details.
We have a centralised administration hub for our community, voice and respiratory outpatient services:
