I have been a Consultant in Diabetes, Endocrinology and Acute Medicine at Northumbria Trust since 2012. I manage complex diabetes and endocrine conditions, contribute to service development and clinical governance, and am actively involved in teaching and mentoring. I run diabetes clinics at Wansbeck, Hexham and Blyth hospitals, endocrinology clinics at Wansbeck and Hexham, diabetes foot MDT clinics at Wansbeck, and hybrid closed-loop insulin pump MDT clinics at Hexham. My acute medical on-call work is based at Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital. Special interests: Hybrid closed-loop insulin pump therapy and diabetes technology, complex diabetic foot disease, and autoimmune thyroid disease. |

Endocrinology
We provide care for people with hormone-related conditions.
We work as a team, bringing together different healthcare professionals for your care. Our aim is to improve your quality of life and long-term health.
Our endocrine nurse team delivers clinics in hospitals including Berwick, Hexham, North Tyneside and Wansbeck.
We review patients with conditions such as:
- thyroid disease
- adrenal insufficiency
- testosterone deficiency
- pituitary disorders
We offer education and ongoing support if you live with adrenal insufficiency and arginine vasopressin deficiency (previously known as diabetes insipidus).

We also provide home visits for patients who are strictly housebound and can't attend clinic appointments.

- Social nail cutting
- Verrucae
- Minor fungal nail and skin infections
- Foot deformities with no pain and/or minimal risk of wounds or infection
- Non-painful corns and calluses
- Low-risk diabetic foot screening, which is managed by your GP surgery
Diabetes specialist dietitians are experts in food, nutrition, and diabetes.
We help you manage your diabetes by giving personalised, evidence-based advice that is focused on your needs.
We work with GPs, hospitals, and other healthcare teams to make sure you get well-coordinated care.
We also have a specialist role in diabetes care. This means we support both patients and staff, with:
- food
- healthy lifestyle choices
- adjusting diabetes medicines
We do this following agreed local guidelines and working closely with GP practices.
Our diabetes and endocrinology pharmacists help make sure you get the right medicines and the best possible care while in hospital.
We work with doctors and nurses across the inpatient wards at our main hospital sites.
We also support medicine safety and good practice for diabetes and hormone treatments by giving advice and training to pharmacy staff and the wider healthcare team.
