Our respiratory service provides care for people with all aspects of respiratory disease including Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), asthma, pulmonary fibrosis, bronchiectasis, chronic cough, lung cancer and sleep apnoea.
In addition to general respiratory clinics the service also provides specialist clinics for lung cancer, sleep medicine, cough, bronchiectasis and pleural disease.
Our service is the only one in the North East to have chronic cough clinics and these run from our general hospitals at Wansbeck and North Tyneside.
We also have a comprehensive sleep service which runs from all three of our general hospitals – Hexham, North Tyneside and Wansbeck – as well as our community hospital in Berwick.
Our respiratory service boasts one of the best rates of survival in the country for patients admitted in respiratory failure. They also have one of the quickest times for getting patients ventilatory support when they need it in an emergency.
