The paediatric asthma service is made up of a team of specialist nurses and the clinical lead for asthma. We provide care to children and their families.

Children may be referred into the service for the following:

  • Children will be given a one-off review appointment following time in hospital because of their asthma.
  • Children who are under the care of a paediatrician for their asthma may be referred.

When you are referred, you will be seen in one of our specialist nurse-led clinics.

We will review how your child’s asthma is by:

  • Talking about any hospital admissions or attendances
  • Talking about relevant medical history
  • Talking about triggers for their asthma
  • Talking about current medication
  • Reviewing inhaler techniques
  • Completing an asthma action plan
  • Carrying out lung function and skin prick tests

We are based at North Tyneside General Hospital. We also hold clinics at Wansbeck General Hospital.
