Northumbria and North Tyneside Children's and Young Peoples Diabetes Service is a multi-disciplinary team consisting of Consultant Diabetes Paediatricians, specialist diabetes nurses, paediatric dietitians specialising in diabetes, access to clinical psychology, a children’s diabetes care coordinator and Health Care assistants.
Our aim is to deliver a structured education approach to the transfer of knowledge and skills while giving support and enabling self-management of a chronic medical condition to children, young people and their families 0-18yrs diagnosed with Type 1, Type 2 and other forms of diabetes.
Reasons for referral
Day to day management of Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes is very complex, involving glucose monitoring, finger pricking, calculating insulin doses with food and trying to regulate a glucose reading between 4-7mmols.
The diabetes team are available daily to give training and advice to all care givers in all areas of the children and young people’s lives.
