What to expect from your appointment
A consultant or another member of our team may see you. Our team also includes:
- GPs
- resident doctors
- experienced allied health practitioners
It is best to wear loose clothing or bring shorts with you. This is because it is likely that we will examine your joints and skin. Sometimes we will also examine your heart, lungs, tummy, and nerves.
It is helpful to bring along a list of your current medication.
Please do not have false nails on or wear nail varnish for the appointment. Many conditions we treat affect the nails. It is useful for us to be able to see them properly.
Please bring a urine (wee) specimen in a clean container. You can collect a pot from your GP surgery beforehand. It is best to bring a sample from first thing in the morning.
Please think about what questions you may want to ask in advance. You may want to bring a list of questions with you.
You are very welcome to bring a family member or friend with you if you would like.
You may need to have other tests like X-rays or blood tests on the day. This can mean you are at the hospital for a longer period of time.
If we are seeing you for the first time, the appointment will last about 30 minutes. Follow-up appointments are shorter.
Please contact 0344 811 8118 in advance if you need an interpreter for your appointment.
