If cancer has spread in your body without an obvious primary (the site where the cancer started), we call this a cancer of unknown primary (CUP).

Sometimes we can find the original cancer with extra tests. This is not always the case.

CUP is more common than you may think. Not knowing what type of cancer you have can be confusing and worrying.

Our role is to support you and your family during this initial phase. We will help you go through the process to get the best possible outcome. We work closely with other cancer teams. This means that when we make a diagnosis, we refer you onto the right team.
