Two nurses at Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust have been nominated for awards at the British Journal of Nursing’s 2026 celebration.

Madeleine Lee, lead nutrition nurse specialist, and Cathi Lang, lead vascular access nurse specialist, have been nominated for the Nutrition Nurse of the Year and Vascular Access Nurse of the Year, respectively.

The annual ceremony celebrates excellence in research and practice, while recognising outstanding achievements across the nursing community. The final will take place at BMA House in London on Friday 20 March 2026.

Madeleine Lee said:

“It’s a real privilege to be nominated for this award and to have the importance of nutrition nursing recognised at a national level. Supporting patients to receive the right nutritional care can make a significant difference in their recovery and quality of life. I’m grateful to work with such a dedicated and supportive multidisciplinary team.”

Cathi Lang said:

“I’m incredibly proud to be nominated alongside so many talented colleagues from across the profession. This recognition reflects the dedication of our whole vascular access team and our shared commitment to delivering the highest standards of care for patients. It’s an honour to represent Northumbria Healthcare on a national stage.”

Marion Dickson, executive director of nursing and midwifery, said:

“Being nominated for these prestigious national awards is a wonderful achievement and reflects the exceptional expertise and dedication that Madeleine and Cathi bring to their roles every day. Their commitment to improving patient care through specialist knowledge, innovation and leadership is truly inspiring.

"On behalf of everyone at the trust, I would like to congratulate them both and wish them every success for the final.”
