A Whitley Bay gift shop has raised £10,000 for a local health trust.

Since the beginning of the pandemic last year, ‘For the Love of the North’ gift shop has been selling a range of iconic prints to raise funds for Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust’s Bright charity.

The prints feature a ‘love will get us through this’ message, inspired by hope, solidarity and the beauty of the North-East, and all include the rainbow motive. 25 per-cent of sales go to the charity, as a way to thank the NHS for its continued response to COVID-19.

Bright, the registered charity of Northumbria Healthcare, funds a wide range of health and care initiatives for patients and staff across the trust.

Husband and wife team, Lucy and Paul Hull, owners of ‘For the Love of the North’ said:

“We knew we wanted to support the NHS in some way. Our friend who works for Northumbria Healthcare had suggested their Bright Charity, where donations support both patients and staff, which is exactly what we wanted.

“The donation has filled us with a massive feeling of pride. Pride in the wonderful community we have in the North East and those Northern home bird’s scattered far and wide across the globe who bought the fundraising prints. It was that community really getting behind what we were doing that got us to the £10,000 for the Bright charity.”

Brenda Longstaff, head of Northumbria Healthcare’s Bright charity, said:

“The NHS has experienced an incredibly challenging year, and we are extremely grateful that For the Love of the North has decided to raise money for us.

“This is yet another example of the tremendous support we’ve had from local communities during the pandemic, which has been so uplifting for our teams, and we would like to thank everyone who bought a beautiful print.

“The money raised from this has gone on to support patients and staff projects across Northumberland and North Tyneside at the Trust.”

The prints are available as an unframed A4 size and cost £10. To buy visit https://www.fortheloveofthenorth.co.uk/collections/nhs-prints
