To celebrate International Nurses Day 2023, our A&E nurse, Chloe Roberts tells us more about how she has progressed through her role, and what she enjoys about it.

"My name is Chloe and I have recently qualified as a staff nurse in A&E in April 2023.

I started my career with Northumbria Healthcare in 2018 as a healthcare apprentice, and from this apprenticeship I gained valuable experience on a ward and in theatres, alongside completing my Level 2 HCSW and Care Certificate. Following this, I started the trainee nursing associate programme which is a 2 year foundation degree and I qualified as a nurse associate in April 2021. The final apprenticeship I completed was the 18 month nursing top-up degree apprenticeship, which was the final step to get me where I wanted to be.

On my very first day as a healthcare assistant apprentice, I instantly knew that I wanted to persue being a nurse, and 5 years down the line I'm lucky to say that I've been successful in achieving my goal. Being a Nurse in A&E is very rewarding and also challenges me at the same time. I enjoy that everyday is different and that there are endless opportunities to learn something new.

I am extremely grateful that I've been able to find a career that I love, and on the toughest of days I still feel lucky to be a nurse"
