Learning Disability Week - James

A portrait of JamesI work within the Enhanced Crisis Aversion Team (ECAT) which is a team who tends to get some quite complex cases where people are at risk of placement breakdown/hospital admission or there is some element of risk or challenging behaviour. I really enjoy my job within ECAT as I feel I am able to make a difference to people during difficult times in their lives – whether that is helping the patients, their families or the staff team around them. I like to think of myself as an advocate for our patients and I always try to support them as best I can.

I studied psychology at university and this led me to start working with individuals who have learning disabilities after graduating. I have worked in colleges, schools, day centres and residential homes where I have supported children, young people and adults of all ages with varying needs. I love working with people and getting to know their personalities and this is what has underpinned the majority of my career.

I consider myself very lucky to have met some amazing people throughout my working life and I would like to think that my support of them, however small it may be, has impacted their life in a positive way.
