Professor Margaret Rowe is the Emeritus Professor of Workforce Development at the University of Salford, having previously held the role of Pro Vice Chancellor. Prior to becoming a non-executive director at Northumbria, she was a governor, and has also been a governor and non-executive director for the NHS in Greater Manchester.

With more than 25 years of experience in UK Higher Education, 15 years of strategic leadership in the university sector and senior leadership roles in the NHS, Margaret has consistently integrated academic leadership with the external business environment; regionally, nationally and internationally.

Margaret was on the national strategic committee for the revalidation of nurses and midwives for the NMC and has been part of several developments in nursing education and the standards for nurses for a number of years. In 2025, she was honoured with the gold award for outstanding services to social care by the Chief Nursing Officer for England for Adult Social Care.

Margaret has previously held positions on the Northwest NHS Regional People Board, Greater Manchester NHS People Board and the Salford Health and Wellbeing Board.
