The Occupational Therapy team within Mental Health Services for Older People provides assessment and intervention for patients across both the specialist inpatient wards, (wards 20 and 21 NTGH) the Community Mental Health Teams and also those accessing the Memory Clinic Service, Early onset service and the Nursing Home Team. Strong links and support are also in place with the NTGH Liaison team.

Occupational Therapy within Mental Health Services encompasses the key elements relating to patient centred care including, assessment, problem solving, activity analysis and the formulation of activity based therapeutic treatment goals.

Referrals into Occupational Therapy are internal to the Mental Health for Older People’s service and are accepted from MHSOP ward staff and community health and social care professionals. Daily triage ensures that referrals are responded to and prioritised accurately and in a timely manner.
