Hospitals urging patients to attend appointments

A consultant at Northumbria Healthcare is urging patients to continue attending appointments to ensure they can get the treatment they need despite the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Dr Tom Lee, the clinical lead for endoscopy at Northumbria, is reassuring people who may be concerned about coming into hospital about the huge amount of work that has been done to ensure patient safety.

“It’s vital that patients come along for their tests or investigations because there’s always a really good reason for them being referred here.

“We’ve put a lot of work into making sure everything we do is as safe as possible before, during and after the test – so please do not delay your treatment,” he said.

Matron Sandra Marshall explained how the team had adapted the waiting area to accommodate social distancing, incorporated masks and adapted the recovery area to make things as safe as possible.

The Endoscopy team has created a series of videos to help people see that it’s safe to attend and provide further reassurance to those who may be worried.

This includes a video walk through of the department so patients can understand what to expect.
