Physical activity
It's essential to be physically active if you want to live a healthy and fulfilling life into old age.
Evidence shows physical activity can help us:
- feel better
- improve our health and happiness
- reduce our risk of major illness
- boost self-esteem, mood, sleep quality and energy
- reduce stress
Small increases in physical activity can make a difference to everyone.
Check physical activity guidelines for:
- children (under 5 years)
- children and young people (5 to 18 years)
- adults (19 to 64 years)
- older adults (65 years and over)
Being active can be a challenge when you are managing a long-term condition. For ideas on how to make moving work for you, visit ‘We are undefeatable’.
