North Tyneside General Hospital unveils refurbished high-tech lecture theatre to enhance staff learning
Healthcare professionals at North Tyneside General Hospital are set to benefit from a newly refurbished, state-of-the-art lecture theatre, designed to support education and training.
Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust has made a significant investment in upgrading the facility, aiming to improve the learning environment, boost educational outcomes, and meet the growing demands for staff training and development.
The upgraded lecture theatre now features:
- A cutting-edge laser projector for crystal-clear visuals
- Enhanced audio with additional speakers and acoustic wall panelling
- Ergonomic, collaborative seating to improve comfort and engagement
- Integrated desk power sockets for added convenience
- A sleek, modern interior design to inspire a more dynamic learning experience
Niall McMahon, education facilities manager at Northumbria Healthcare, commented:
“We’re thrilled to see this project come to fruition. Education is vital to the development of our healthcare staff, enabling them to deliver the high-quality care our patients expect. This upgraded facility will significantly enhance our education and training programmes.”

The refurbishment was delivered by Northumbria Healthcare Facilities Management (NHFM), the estates and facilities subsidiary of the trust, in collaboration with project managers and cost consultants Identity Consult, P+HS Architects and building contractor IHP/SRM.
Mark Hawdon, Head of Service for Capital Projects at NHFM, added:
“This has been a fantastic project from start to finish. As education and training needs continue to evolve, it was clear the existing lecture theatre needed a modern upgrade. We’re confident these new facilities will have a lasting positive impact on the staff learning experience.”
James Treanor, Associate Project Manager at Identity Consult said: “I'd like to acknowledge the commitment of both the delivery and design teams in bringing this project to completion within the required timescales.
Despite some technical challenges along the way, the team's collaborative approach ensured everything was resolved effectively. We're really pleased with the outcome, and it’s been a pleasure working alongside the education team throughout.”
