Clinical research plays a vital role in improving healthcare for everyone by comparing the effects of one treatment with another. It may involve patients, healthy people, or both, and ultimately leads to better outcomes and experiences for patients and their families.
At Northumbria Healthcare we are committed to providing the best care that we can for our patients and that includes giving them an opportunity to be involved in the research work that we do.
We carry out leading edge research and our active participation continues.
We are one of the highest recruiting NHS organisations in the North East
We are involved in research across a large number of specialty areas, with are departments being renowned experts in their field. This includes cancer, Parkinson's Disease, orthopaedics, rheumatology, critical care, obstetrics and gynaecology, gastroenterology and respiratory medicine.
As well as taking part in national clinical research, our senior researchers have developed their own research which is recognised nationally and internationally.
Research takes many forms including:
- Personal feedback
- Focus groups
- Potential new treatment to drug (medicine) trials
There are many ways for patients and their families to get involved. Every trial offered to a patient has to provide equal or potentially better care than what is considered current best practice.
