Going to a sexual health clinic can be worrying for anyone. It may be more difficult for trans and non-binary people.
Anyone age 13 and over can use our service. Trans and non-binary people are welcome to use all our services.
At our Blyth and North Tyneside Hospital clinics, we have gender neutral:
- Waiting areas
- Toilets
- Clinic Rooms
You can use your preferred name and pronouns. It is okay if these are different to those on your GP medical records.
We offer sexual health services for trans and non-binary people, including:
• STI testing and treatment
• PrEP (Pre exposure prophylaxis for HIV)
• PEP (Post exposure prophylaxis for HIV)
• Hepatitis A and B testing and vaccines
• HPV vaccines
• DoxyPEP (coming soon!)
• Bexsero (Gonorrhoea vaccine) and MPOX vaccine (if eligible)
• Cervical screening (for anyone over 25 with a cervix)
• Contraception
• Free condoms and dental dams
At our clinic, you will see a specialist sexual health clinician. This may be a nurse, doctor or healthcare assistant. You can discuss all your sexual health needs or concerns with them.
If you have no symptoms of STIs, you can often take your own tests.
Sometimes, a nurse or doctor may ask to look at/check your genital area. They will try to make this as comfortable as they can. If you would like, someone else can be in the room with you.
We also offer STI home testing kits. To order one you must:
• Live in North Tyneside or Northumberland.
• Be age 16 or over.
• Have no symptoms.
We also offer male and female condoms online. To order these, you must:
• Live in North Tyneside or Northumberland.
• Be age 16 or over.
Some people feel embarrassed or worried about talking about their sexual health or having their body examined.
Our clinicians specialise in sexual health and have seen and heard it all before. They will try to make you feel comfortable and won’t judge you.
