A sexually transmitted infection (STI), is a bacterial or viral infection that can be passed on through unprotected sexual contact. Some STIs have symptoms (see further details below), but sometimes you can have an STI with no symptoms and not even know you have it! We recommend regular testing and to test every time you change sexual partners.
Home testing kits are quick and easy to do and can be delivered to your door in discreet packaging, or collected from one of our hubs . They are only suitable if you do not have any symptoms of an STI.

Details of home testing kits
Vaginal swab - If you were assigned female at birth, this will test you for gonorrhoea and chlamydia, it also provides a more accurate result than a urine sample. If you select a vaginal swab for your kit please DO NOT select a urine sample as well as these test for the same site. If you have had a vaginoplasty, a urine test will give a more accurate result.
Urine sample - This will test for gonorrhoea and chlamydia. This is the best test for people with a penis, phalloplasty or vaginoplasty.
Rectal swab - This will test for gonorrhoea and chlamydia. This test should be taken if you are having anal (bottom) sex or have been sharing anal sex toys.
Throat swab - This will test for gonorrhoea and chlamydia and should be taken if you are having oral sex.
Blood samples - This will test for HIV, syphilis, hepatitis B and hepatitis C. This can be taken by anyone.
Each sample must be taken from a different place. You must use a different swab.

Symptoms include:
- unusual discharge
- itching
- lumps of blisters around the genitals or anus
- pain when passing urine
- pain and/or bleeding after sex
- pain in the testicles or lower tummy

Each kit contains everything you need to provide us with your own samples:
