During the year, we support a number of regional and national campaigns.
These help to raise awareness of the services we offer and provide a chance to highlight important health issues to our communities.
We often hold events during these weeks or months to promote our services.
Please see more details below.
The North East has some of the highest sexually transmitted infection (STI) rates in the country. STIs, especially in young people aged 15-24, have increased since 2019, with rates of gonorrhoea and chlamydia of particular concern.
The 'Elephant in the Room' campaign aims to reduce the stigma associated with sex and sexual health by encouraging honest conversations among young people, as well as increasing condom use and testing, to help reduce the transmission and harm from STIs.
This campaign is to encourage anyone over the age of 13 living in Northumberland or North Tyneside to look after their sexual health by exploring the different contraception options available to help prevent against pregnancy and Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs).
Contraception helps prevent pregnancy. Condoms can also help protect you from Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs). Different types of contraception suit different people. Contraception is free for everyone aged 13 and above.
If you’re worried about anything to do with your sexual health or would like to discuss something in more detail, please don’t hesitate to contact the sexual health team, you can find the details on our contraception webpage.
