Top job satisfaction for Northumbria Healthcare staff
NHS staff working in hospitals and out in communities across Northumberland and North Tyneside have once again been recognised as some of the most satisfied in England.
Results of the 2013 NHS staff survey published yesterday show a further increase in the number of staff who would recommend the Trust as a place to work or receive treatment, putting Northumbria Healthcare in the top 20 per cent of all NHS organisations nationally.
The 2013 results for Northumbria Healthcare show:
91 per cent of staff feel their role makes a difference to patients
84 per cent of staff feel satisfied with the quality of patient care they deliver
78 per cent of staff agree that providing high quality patient care is the organisation’s top priority.
Most importantly, 74 per cent of Northumbria staff feel able to contribute to improvements at work which forms a core part of the Trust’s ‘We’re Listening’ campaign to encourage ideas for continuous improvement from all areas of the organisation. 91 per cent of staff also felt able to report errors or incidents which can be seen as evidence of a positive reporting culture and learning environment.
Northumbria Healthcare is one of the largest NHS employers in the region with over 9,000 staff working across nine hospital sites and visiting patients in their own homes and various community settings.
Other key findings from the 2013 results for Northumbria show that 94 per cent of staff believe the Trust provides equal opportunities for career progression or promotion and 81 per cent of staff received relevant job-related training, learning or development in the past year, with staff feeling supported by their immediate managers.
The NHS staff survey, which is carried out across 265 NHS organisations in England, is an important way of ensuring that the views of staff working in the NHS inform local improvements and that staff have their say in the delivery of high quality, safe and effective care. Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust had a response rate of 78 per cent – one of the best response rates in the country.
