Thank you – A statement to all staff from Jim Mackey
This has been one of the hardest, and longest, winters many of us can remember and I wanted to thank you for your amazing efforts throughout this period.
We have had all the usual winter pressures we have come to expect. However, we have also had terrible norovirus, flu, and snow and ice pretty much continuously since before Christmas.
Throughout all of this, it has been humbling to see staff pull together and stay focused on the people we are here to look after. Even in times of extreme pressure, we have seen staff in good spirits, showing great skill and compassion in an exemplary fashion.
It has also been fantastic to see our colleagues from other services, such as the Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service, mucking in and helping out and we owe them a huge debt of gratitude also. It has also been fantastic to see how ordinary members of the public – scores of them – have stepped forward to offer assistance to their NHS.
We know that we have lots of changes, investments and improvements to make in order that we can withstand these pressures more effectively in the future. However, none of this is possible without great people working with the attitude and professionalism that you have shown throughout.
Rest assured that we are all aware and appreciative of your efforts.
I hope that we see signs of Spring very soon, and pressures abating. In the meantime, thanks again for your continued dedication, skill and compassion.
Thanks, and keep going….
