Specialist stop smoking support comes to Sunderland

People in Sunderland wishing to stop smoking now have access to specialist support to help them quit.

Sunderland NHS Specialist Stop Smoking Service, run by Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, is a new service which offers free, friendly and confidential support and advice to help people stop smoking.

As well as providing specialist advice and support to quit, the service can offer telephone advice for those not wishing to access the specialist service. This includes signposting to other local community services and tips and tools to help with giving up.

Clinics are available in a range of community venues, and there will also be out-of-hours clinics for those who find it difficult to attend appointments during the day.

The service builds on support which is already available at GPs and community pharmacies and means that smokers in the city who want to quit have more options available to help than ever before.

Evidence shows that people are four times more likely to give up for good with support and medication.

To find out more about giving up smoking and the new service, visit www.stopsmokingsunderland.nhs.uk or call 0191 567 1057 or freephone 0800 169 9913.

The website enables people to get interactive information and advice, find their nearest clinic, see how much money they can save, learn more about the health benefits of quitting and get the facts on E-cigarettes.

Judith Stonebridge, public health consultant at Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, said: “Our new Sunderland Specialist Stop Smoking Service is here to support you on your journey to give up smoking.
