Sensory drop-in visits Amble

An event is being held in Amble next month to help people living with sensory loss.

Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is joining forces with Northumberland County Blind Association (NCBA) for the drop-in at the Social Care Health Information Point at Amble Library on Wednesday 11 December.

At the event, which runs from 9.45am to 3.45pm, people will be able to access information and advice about living with sensory loss and find out about the support and services that exist in the area.

Specially-trained staff will be on hand to explain about products, equipment, support and services that are available to improve the everyday lives of people who are deaf or hard of hearing, who have tinnitus, are vision impaired, or who are deafblind.

There will also be information available for those who want to find out more about how they can help to protect their hearing for the future, and a representative from Scene Enterprises will be on hand to talk about ‘In Good Hands’ a voluntary buddy project scheme supporting those with dual sensory loss within their local community.

Karen Martin, manager for the sensory support team for Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, said: “Many people don’t realise how important their hearing or sight is until they start to lose it and it can be a very challenging time.

“We are delighted to work with Northumberland County Blind Association so that people can find out about the many options for support that are available to them.

“We would like to encourage people living in and around Amble with sensory loss to come along and take advantage of this unique event.”

Representatives from NCBA will be on hand from 9.45am to 12.45pm and the Trust’s sensory support team will be present for the rest of the event.

This is the last of 10 sensory drop-ins which have been taking place across Northumberland this year. For more details, contact Northumbria Healthcare on 01670 536400 or the NCBA team on 01670 514316.
