Region’s craftspeople invited to new Northumbria hospital

Craftspeople in the North East are invited to put forward their work to be sold at the new Northumbria hospital in Cramlington.

Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is looking to sell a range of local craft items such as jewellery, pottery, scented candles, soaps, cushions and crafts in its Hospital Volunteer Service (HVS) shop in the main entrance.

The trust is inviting local makers to The Northumbria hospital to meet volunteers and show their work at an open event on Tuesday 3 November from 2pm to 4pm.

Part of the proceeds of the sales will go to the trust’s Bright charity which goes towards improving patients’ experiences. Items should be reasonably priced with a maximum cost of £20.

The new Northumbria hospital opened in June and treats all serious emergencies from across Northumberland and North Tyneside.

Brenda Longstaff, head of charity development and volunteering at Northumbria Healthcare, said: “We know there are many extremely talented craftspeople in our area and we would encourage local makers to come along to The Northumbria hospital next Tuesday to meet us and show us their work.

“We’d really like to have items on sale in our shop and showcase the amazing talents of our local communities and the unique crafts being made in our area.”

If you are interested, please email brightcharity@northumbria.nhs.uk with brief details of your work (including photos, prices and website details if available).

The Northumbria hospital has emergency medicine consultants are on site 24/7 and specialist consultants in a broad range of conditions also work seven days a week.

For patients who are seriously ill or injured, this means they have much quicker access to specialist care, which is helping to save more lives and maximising chances of survival and a good recovery.
