We are nationally recognised as one of the best foundation trusts in England, with many accolades achieved over a number of years in recognition of the quality and safety of our care. These include:

  • Provider Trust of the Year, National Health Service Journal Awards 2013 - this prestigious award was for our drive to continuously improve the quality of care we deliver to patients in hospitals and in the community and our commitment to listening to, and acting on, the feedback of patients and relatives.

  • Nursing Times Awards 2013 - ‘nursing in the community’ award for work supporting people living with dementia.

  • Named in the top ten best performing NHS Trusts in England for the third consecutive year in the latest National Cancer Patient Experience Survey.

  • For the fourth consecutive year, we have performed among the best trusts nationally for high quality, timely care of patients who break their hips.

  • Patient Safety in Acute Care Award at the Patient Safety Awards 2013

  • Being recognised once again as one of the country’s top trusts. CHKS, the UK’s leading independent provider of healthcare intelligence and quality improvement services, has named the Trust as one of the 40 best performing organisations for the fifth consecutive year. The 40 Top Hospitals awards measures patient experience and quality of care alongside clinical effectiveness, health outcomes and efficiency. The Trust was also shortlisted for the data quality award.

  • Once again recognised as one of the country’s top performing hospital trusts, winning two national awards at the prestigious CHKS Top Hospitals programme 2013. CHKS named us as one of the 40 best performing NHS organisations in England for the sixth consecutive year. The award celebrates healthcare providers which deliver high quality care measuring clinical effectiveness, health outcomes, efficiency and patient experience.
  • For the second time, the Trust also won the CHKS data quality award for England which recognises the importance of clinical coding and data quality, and the essential roles they play in ensuring appropriate patient care.
     
  • Winning two top regional awards from NHS North East for improving the quality and safety of patient care. Chief executive Jim Mackey was recognised for his leadership of improvements across the North East and we were praised for our work to reduce infections following operations.

  • Winning a top Patient Experience Network National Award for improving the quality of care of people who suffer a hip fracture. They are the only dedicated national awards for healthcare organisations working to improve patient experience and we won for our Hip Fracture Quality Improvement Programme, known as Hip Qip. This is the second time the project has been recognised on a national stage – The National Hip Fracture Database featured us for the quality of care we offers patients.

  • Our hospitals named the safest places in the North East to have a baby after our maternity services achieved the highest possible safety rating from the NHS Litigation Authority (NHSLA). 

  • Patients voting us as being the best in the region and among the top five NHS trusts in the country for the care they have received in the 2011 National Outpatient Survey, released by the Care Quality Commission.
