Public invited to look around Haltwhistle health and social care scheme

People in Haltwhistle are being invited to see inside the town’s new integrated health and social care facility at an open event next month.

Northumberland County Council and Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust are giving the community the opportunity to look around Greenholme Court and Haltwhistle War Memorial Hospital at a drop-in event on Wednesday May 7 from 10am to 1pm.

The pioneering purpose-built scheme will be one of the first facilities of its kind in the country to provide hospital and social care support under one roof.

The open event follows the handover of the building from the contractors to the two organisations, enabling them to prepare the development for residents and patients.

Representatives from the council and the trust will be on hand at the drop-in event to answer any questions about the £4.6million development.

The facility has 12 extra-care flats on the ground floor called Greenholme Court, managed by Homes for Northumberland on behalf of Northumberland County Council.

It also has 15 hospital beds providing rehabilitation support and care for elderly patients, delivered by Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, on the first floor called Haltwhistle War Memorial Hospital.

A spokeswoman for Northumberland County Council and Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust said: “The open day is the community’s opportunity to have a look around the building before residents move into the flats and patients and staff return from Hexham General Hospital.

“We could encourage members of the public to come along and see first-hand the fantastic facility we have in Haltwhistle and find out how it will significantly improve health and social care provision in the town.”
