Ms Nicola Johnson
Macmillan clinical nurse specialist in breast care
Nicola’s areas of specialty are oncology, psychological support and survivorship issues.
She has been helped developed the service in Hexham General Hospital to include various nurse-led clinics to provide more support locally for patients who may be under investigation or being treated for breast cancer.
Nicola’s background is in surgery and oncology and worked at the Northern Centre for Cancer Treatment as a research sister and as a breast care nurse in Newcastle before joining the trust.
She has been Chair of the North East Cancer Network Breast Care Nurses Group for the last four years. Previously Nicola was deputy chair of the regional breast screening group which involved visiting and assessing standards at breast screening hospitals in the area.
She has a BA honours degree in cancer care and a Masters degree in counselling as well as various other qualifications in cancer care and education.
Nicola sees patients at Hexham General Hospital. Here she holds low-risk new patient clinic and review, family history and lymphoedema clinics as well as one- stop urgent breast clinics.
