Mr Roland Pratt
Consultant orthopaedic surgeon
Mr Pratt specialises in upper limb conditions, namely of the hand, wrist, shoulder and elbow, dealing with trauma, arthritis, ligament and tendon problems.
He performs arthroscopic (keyhole) surgery for suitable wrist and shoulder problems, and replacement operations for shoulder and hand joints.
He was appointed as a consultant with the trust in 2005. He studied medicine in Cambridge before undertaking an orthopaedic research doctorate in Nottingham and orthopaedic surgical training in Oxford and Newcastle. In addition he has undertaken an upper limb fellowship in Australia.
He is the orthopaedic site director for North Tyneside General Hospital.
Mr Pratt is actively involved in education, and organises the hand and wrist element of the postgraduate education programme for orthopaedic specialist registrars.
His research interests include shoulder trauma, scaphoid fracture and hip fracture, areas in which the trust is partaking in national trials.
He is a member of the British Society for Surgery of the Hand and British Shoulder and Elbow Society.
Mr Pratt sees patient at North Tyneside and Hexham general hospitals.
