Mr Keith Gibbard
Consultant podiatric surgeon
Mr Gibbard specialises in forefoot and midfoot surgery including revision procedures primarily using ambulatory techniques and local anaesthesia.
Mr Gibbard has been a consultant with the trust since 2005, establishing and developing the podiatric biomechanics service to become a trustwide speciality. He is acting clinical lead for the podiatric surgery service, working in close partnership with the orthopaedic foot and ankle team.
As a podiatric surgeon he has a particular interest in forefoot and midfoot problems, using surgical techniques which, together with advanced local anaesthetic techniques, enables complex foot surgery to be performed on a day-case basis.
Mr Gibbard graduated from Durham School of Podiatry in 1989, commencing podiatric surgical training in 1997 in Birmingham and Derbyshire. He became a Surgical Fellow of the College of Podiatrists in 2002 and worked as a podiatric surgical registrar from 2002-5 in Nottingham and Derbyshire.
Mr Gibbard is actively involved in education, training undergraduates, podiatric surgical trainees and registrars in the Northern Deanery of the Directorate of Podiatric Surgery. He has lectured locally and nationally to both the podiatric and wider medical communities.
He has been internationally published on a variety of forefoot pathological surgical treatments, regularly attending skill workshops and international conferences to ensure best practice is maintained.
Mr Gibbard sees patients at Wansbeck and Hexham general hospitals.
