Mr David Cloke
Consultant upper limb and trauma surgeon
Mr Cloke specialises in conditions affecting the shoulder and elbow, wrist and hand.
His specialist interests include arthroscopic (keyhole) surgery of the shoulder for rotator cuff problems, instability and frozen shoulder.
He has experience in all surgical options for the treatment of arthritis of the shoulder, including total shoulder replacement and reverse replacement. In addition he is experienced in total elbow replacement for arthritis.
Mr Cloke attended Newcastle Medical School, graduating with honours, and trained locally in the Northern Deanery. He has advanced training (fellowship) in shoulder and elbow surgery.
Mr Cloke is heavily involved in educating future consultants. He is both a specialty tutor in orthopaedics and a Royal College of Surgeons Tutor. He was voted Northern Region Orthopaedic Trainer of the year 2014. He teaches on national courses in shoulder arthroscopy, replacement and injuries.
He is active in research and has papers published in effects of arthroscopic shoulder surgery, injuries in youth football and management of shoulder pain.
He is affiliated to many professional organisations including membership of the British Shoulder and Elbow Society, British Orthopaedic Association, British Society for Surgery of the Hand and Academy of Surgeon Educators (RCS)
Outside of his work for the trust, Mr Cloke is a military orthopaedic surgeon in the Army reserve, holding the position of Lieutenant Colonel.
Mr Cloke sees patients at North Tyneside General Hospital and Alnwick infirmary.
