‘Outstanding’ Northumbria nurses wish colleagues a Happy International Day
A week after being rated ‘outstanding’ by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is tomorrow celebrating the invaluable contribution of its nursing and midwifery teams on International Nurses Day 2016 (Thursday 12 May).
As the world pays tribute to nurses across the world, the trust is showcasing the hard work and dedication of its 3,000-strong nursing and midwifery workforce who care for patients in hospitals, in the community and in people’s own homes across Northumberland and North Tyneside.
To mark the day, nurses and midwives from across the trust have starred in a video to promote ‘nursing the Northumbria Way’ and to thank colleagues across the trust for the care, love and compassion they show every minute of every day. Click here to view the video.
Nurses and midwives have also wished their colleagues around the world a Happy International Nurses Day. Click here to view the video and here for the outtakes. The videos are being shared on the trust’s social media platforms with the hashtags #InternationalNursesDay #IND2016 and #thankanurse.
The videos come a week after the trust became only the fourth organisation nationally to be rated ‘outstanding’ by the CQC.
Following an inspection in November last year and further ‘unannounced’ visits, the Chief Inspector of Hospitals said staff delivered compassionate care which was polite and respectful, treated patients with dignity and respect and they went above and beyond.
International Nurses Day is celebrated on May 12 each year, the anniversary of Florence Nightingale’s birth.
Debbie Reape, interim executive director of nursing at Northumbria Healthcare, said: “It’s excellent this year that International Nurses Day has fallen just a week after our ‘outstanding’ fantastic CQC rating – the timing just couldn’t have been better.
“The report was a ringing endorsement of the care our nurses provide and there’s a real buzz around the trust. Our nurses and midwives were more than happy to star in our video and showcase their invaluable contribution, and wish nurses around the world a Happy International Nurses Day.
“International Nurses Day is a fantastic opportunity every year to pay tribute to our nurses and we would like to thank each and every one of them for everything they do to care for our patients.”
The CQC rated 20 of Northumbria Healthcare’s core services as ‘outstanding’ – more than any other organisation previously inspected by the Chief Inspector of Hospitals. The report also noted 52 examples of ‘outstanding’ practice – more than double the amount of any other trust previously inspected.
