Our physiotherapy service supports children and young people aged 0-19 who have developmental, neurological, neuromuscular or musculoskeletal difficulties.
We can help with:
- Recovering from sports injuries, fractures, head injuries
- Rehabilitation after surgery
- Painful joints
- Physical difficulties caused by long term health conditions, e.g. genetic conditions, cerebral palsy, spina bifida
- Delayed acquisition of physical skills, e.g. sitting, walking
Our team includes physiotherapists or physiotherapy assistants who have specialist knowledge of child development and conditions.
We provide assessment and individual support to enable your child to reach their full potential, maximise function, movement and independence. This can include postural management programmes, activities and exercise, therapeutic techniques and advice on orthotics such as splints, and equipment.
We see children and young people in our clinics in health centres, outpatient clinics in hospitals, nurseries, schools and at home.
We work closely with families and other professionals involved in your child’s care to build confidence and improve support. If they need extra support we also work closely with other healthcare professionals in specialist centres such as the Great North Children’s Hospital in Newcastle.
How to access our service
Referrals to the service can be made by any medical professional, for example, GP, paediatrician, occupational therapist, speech and language therapist and social worker. Children who are 16+ can also choose to be seen by us or by our physiotherapists who support adults.
You can contact us Monday to Friday 8.30am – 5.00pm. If we are in a clinic you can leave us a message on our answer phone and we will call you back.

Preparing for adulthood
If a young person has complex and ongoing physical health needs, from 14 onwards we will work with you and your family to consider the support you might need in adulthood. We will also work closely with professionals who will be involved in your care once you turn 18 and above to ensure you get the right support.
