Nurse returns to Kielder
Chantelle Steinbeck, macmillan acute oncology clinical nurse specialist at Northumbria Hospital returns to Kielder to do the marathon after relocating to the North East.
Back in 2014 Chantelle would never have thought she’d take up running marathons as a hobby. She first started running by doing NHS Couch to 5k. The Kielder Marathon was her first ever marathon in 2014 and since then her interest in running has snowballed.
She says: “I really enjoy running. I run for my own positive mental health. It’s time out just for me.”
In 2015 she completed Kerry Way ultra marathon a 120 miles event in Ireland coming 2nd female and the 3rd female to ever complete the course. She now runs on average 1500 miles a year. This includes a number of competitions; either marathons, half marathons wherever possible to maintain her fitness levels for the bigger distances.
In an average week she will go the gym and run 40-60 kilometres either 2/3 times a week, depending on what she’s got on.
She says: “The Kielder marathon is a beautiful course, it was my first ever marathon so it will be great to go back. If you are considering doing a challenge like this, believe in yourself- you can do it.
If you’d told me a few years ago that I’d be running ultra marathons I wouldn’t have believed you but since completing my first marathon at Kielder I’ve never looked back.”
The Active Northumberland Kielder Marathon Weekend 2018 is delivered by Events of the North in conjunction with Northumbrian Water, Active Northumberland, Northumberland County Council and Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.
