Northumbria shortlisted for eight national patient experience awards

Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is in the running for eight national awards for improving patients’ experiences of accessing services.

The trust has been shortlisted for the accolades at The Patient Experience Network National Awards, the only awards which celebrate the delivery of outstanding patient experience by those in health and social care.

Being announced on 1 March 2018, Northumbria’s nominations cover projects delivered to enhance patients’ experiences across Northumberland and North Tyneside.

The Northumbria projects in the running for awards are:

  • Working in partnership to improve palliative care in hospital and in the community (two nominations)
  • Improving the well-being of patients on an elderly care ward at North Tyneside General Hospital
  • Enabling women to reflect on their birth experiences (two nominations)
  • Using an assistive hearing device with patients who have a hearing impairment on an elderly care ward at The Northumbria hospital

The trust’s patient experience team, which oversees projects and collects and listens to the views of thousands of patients every year in order to continually improve, is also in the running for ‘team of the year’.

Annie Laverty, director of patient experience at Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, said: “Yet again we’re delighted to be shortlisted for multiple national awards which showcase the excellent work taking place nationally to continually improve patients’ experiences of health and social care.

“Our nominations celebrate the variety of projects we’ve undertaken in the last year in hospitals and the community and we’re pleased to be recognised at this level.

“Best of luck to all our nominees and we look forward to sharing our good work with colleagues from across the country and learning from other organisations also carrying out exceptional projects to ensure patients have the best experience possible.”

Northumbria Healthcare is recognised nationally for its patient experience programmes and is helping to support other NHS trusts to develop and improve their own patient experience programmes.
