Northumbria named amongst NHS elite

Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust has today been named by Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt as one of the best NHS Trusts in the country.

Covering one of the largest geographic areas in England and responsible for running healthcare services across Northumberland and North Tyneside, Northumbria Healthcare is one of nine ‘elite’ NHS organisations that has been drafted in to help prevent future failures of care and safety at other NHS hospitals.

As a top performing NHS Foundation Trust, widely recognised as having the very highest standards of patient care and safety, Northumbria Healthcare has today been officially partnered with North Cumbria University Hospitals NHS Trust to help deliver improvements.

Northumbria Healthcare has already been working very closely with North Cumbria as part of the ongoing acquisition process and today’s official partnership announcement will see a formal ‘improvement contract’ put in place so that Northumbria can support North Cumbria even further.

Under the new arrangements announced by the Government today, Northumbria Healthcare will be reimbursed for its time and expertise and have access to a special incentive fund which means the Trust could be paid extra for delivering results in North Cumbria.  The move aims to help inspire other NHS leaders and their teams by partnering the country’s leading hospitals and the very best in the NHS, to help implement tried and tested solutions in other parts of the country.

Commenting on the announcement today, Dave Evans, medical director at Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, said: “We have been working very closely with North Cumbria as part of our ongoing acquisition process and are very pleased to be announced as the Trust’s official partner organisation today.

“Our primary focus is on working with our colleagues in North Cumbria to drive the required improvements to the quality of care being delivered and ensuring services are safe for patients, something which we will not compromise on at Northumbria Healthcare.”
