Northumbria helps nursery celebrate 10th birthday

Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust has helped a nursery company which has premises at three of its hospitals to celebrate its tenth anniversary.

Trust chief executive Jim Mackey attended an event at Kids 1st Rake Lane in the grounds of the trust’s North Tyneside General Hospital to mark the start of the celebrations for the family-run nursery company.

Throughout the year children, parents and staff will be treated to events, competitions and gifts to commemorate this landmark anniversary.

The North Shields nursery was the first Kids 1st nursery to open in March 2004, swiftly followed by its second nursery at Wansbeck General Hospital. With nine outstanding Ofsted reports the nurseries are well known throughout the region for leading the way in childcare and for the last three years have been named ‘The Highest Quality Childcare Providers in the UK’ by Nursery World.

There is also a nursery to the rear of the trust’s Hexham General Hospital.

Mark McArdle, managing director of Kids 1st, said: “The last ten years have been amazing; we have achieved so much and the company continues to go from strength-to-strength.

“I am so proud to see so many of our staff still working with us today, some started out as nursery assistants and are now managers. That says a lot for their hard work, dedication and love for the children they care for.”

Allison Winship, head of childcare at the Kids 1st, is also delighted to be part of the ten-year celebrations. She said: “It feels like only yesterday that we opened Kids 1st Rake Lane and now here we are celebrating ten years in business, that’s lots of children we have cared for!

“It has been a pleasure to watch the children and staff develop over the years and I am really looking forward to see what the future holds for the next ten years.”

Kids 1st has been collecting ‘magic moments’ from families that currently attend the nurseries but they would love to hear from children that have left. If you have a special moment that you think of every time you recall your child’s time at a Kids 1st nursery then email it to:
