Northumbria Healthcare’s award nominations for patient experience

Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust has once again been recognised nationally for its work to improve patients’ experiences of receiving care in Northumberland and North Tyneside.

The trust has been shortlisted in 10 of the 16 categories in The Patient Experience Network National Awards 2014 – the only awards which recognise and celebrate the delivery of outstanding patient experience by healthcare organisations.

Widely recognised as having one of the best patient experience programmes in the NHS, the nominations reflect the wide range of services provided by the trust across hospital and community care in North Tyneside and hospital, community and adult social care in Northumberland.

Judges said the shortlisted entries were of an ‘exceptional standard’ and demonstrate a ‘real commitment to ensuring that the voice of the patient is continually being sought’.

The nominations for Northumbria Healthcare include an approach to better support children and young people who self harm, a commitment to improve dignified, compassionate and safe care for elderly patients and work to improve staff experience.

Further afield, the trust has also been shortlisted for work to bring safer care closer to people in Tanzania as part of its award-winning international work.

Annie Laverty, director of patient experience at Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, said: “Improving patients’ experiences of receiving their care with us is a key priority and we are truly delighted to be shortlisted in so many categories in the only national awards for patient experience.

“As an organisation, we’re passionate about delivering patient-centred care and listening to our patients and their relatives so we can make things even better.

“These nominations reflect the diverse range of services we provide and our desire to continually improve, and are testament to the dedication and commitment of our teams who work hard every day to deliver first-class care. We would like to thank them for their efforts.”

The award winners will be are announced on 11 March.

Every year Northumbria Healthcare listens to the views of more than 25,000 patients to understand what people think about the care it provides. This is done at different stages of the patient journey in order to gain a full picture and results are shared openly and transparently with the public.
