Northumbria Healthcare named among country’s best

Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust has once again been recognised as one of the country’s top performing trusts, winning a national award at the CHKS Top Hospitals programme 2014.

For the seventh consecutive year, CHKS, the UK’s leading independent provider of healthcare intelligence and quality improvement services, has named Northumbria Healthcare as one of the 40 best performing NHS organisations in England.

The 40 Top Hospitals award celebrates excellence and recognises healthcare providers that deliver high quality safe care, measuring clinical effectiveness, health outcomes, efficiency and patient experience.

Jim Mackey, chief executive of Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, said: “It is excellent news for our patients, and everyone involved in our organisation that we have, once again, been named as one of the country’s top performing trusts.

“As a trust, we are passionate about providing the highest standards of care to our patients and continuously striving to improve.

“This award measures what matters to patients and is testament to the commitment and dedication of our staff that we have been successful for seven years in a row. I would like to thank them all for their efforts.”

The trust was also one of only three organisations which were shortlisted for the CHKS data quality award for England which recognises the importance of clinical coding and data quality, and the essential roles they play in ensuring appropriate patient care.

Jason Harries, managing director, CHKS said: “This year we celebrate our 25th anniversary so it is a fitting occasion to reward excellence in the NHS. These awards recognise outstanding performance in those areas which we believe are critical to delivering good patient care.

“We are delighted that Northumbria Healthcare is one of our 40 Top Hospitals in this special year for our awards.”

The CHKS Top Hospitals programme awards were held in London and were attended by over 200 guests including leaders from across the healthcare sector including: NHS England, Monitor, the Trust Development Authority and acute trusts.

The award comes after the trust was named top in the region and amongst the highest performing trusts in England when it comes to providing a top quality experience of care for patients who stay in hospital. In NHS England’s 2013 Inpatient Survey, Northumbria Healthcare was ranked 13th in the country out of 157 trusts with only trusts providing specialist services ranked above.

Last year the trust was named the Health Service Journal’s provider trust of the year for its drive to continuously improve the quality of care it delivers to patients and its commitment to listening to, and acting on, the feedback of patients and relatives.
