Northumbria amongst best in NHS with ‘Top Hospitals’ accolade
Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust has been recognised as one of the country’s best performing NHS organisations for providing safe, high quality patient care at a national awards ceremony held this week.
For the eighth consecutive year, the trust has been named as one of the CHKS Top Hospitals for 2015, an accolade given to the country’s 40 top performing organisations.
The CHKS Top Hospitals programme celebrates excellence and recognises healthcare providers that deliver high quality safe care and is widely regarded as a mark of excellence in the NHS.
The Top Hospitals award is based on the evaluation of more than 20 indicators of clinical effectiveness, health outcomes, efficiency, patient experience and quality of care.
Commenting on the award, Jim Mackey, chief executive of Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, said: “It is fantastic that once again we have been named among the very best in the NHS for the care we provide to our patients across Northumberland and North Tyneside.
“It is credit to the immense dedication of our hard-working teams that we have been able to maintain our very high quality standards year after year, which is an excellent achievement.
“This award is extremely important as it encompasses the areas that make up high quality care and is a good overall measure of the services we provide to patients.
“While we are delighted with this latest accolade, we will not rest on our laurels and remain committed to striving to improve care yet further and listening to our patients and staff in order to help us do that.”
In further recognition of the trust’s services, Northumbria Healthcare was one of five trusts shortlisted for the CHKS patient experience award, held for the first time this year.
Jason Harries, managing director, CHKS said: “These awards recognise outstanding performance in those areas which we believe are critical to delivering good patient care.
“We are delighted that Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is one of our Top Hospitals 2015.”
The award comes as Northumbria Healthcare was named best trust in the country for patient experience (Patient Experience Network Awards 2014) and being chosen by NHS England to take a national lead on transforming patient care as a ‘vanguard’ site.
Earlier this month, the trust won a national patient safety award for improving the quality of care of patients who suffer a hip fracture (BMJ Awards 2015).
The trust is on the verge of transforming emergency care with the opening of the Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital next month.
The new hospital will treat patients from across Northumberland and North Tyneside who are seriously ill or injured ensuring they see the right specialist for their condition quickly which will not only save more lives but is widely proven to improve clinical outcomes.
