Make healthy lifestyle changes at new clubs

Two clubs are starting in North Tyneside next week to help children and young people make healthy lifestyle changes.

The clubs are run by Healthy 4 Life, a free family healthy lifestyle programme to help children and families make positive lifestyle changes to achieve and maintain a healthy weight.

They start on Tuesday, 22 January at Howdon Community Centre in Howdon and Thursday, 24 January at The Parks Sports Centre in North Shields. Both clubs are from 4pm to 6pm and run on the respective evenings for 10 weeks.

The clubs, managed by Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust and North Tyneside Council, are for children aged seven to 14 years. All children need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Helen Fenwick, public health nurse, said: “These family-centred programmes are all about helping children and young people to make healthy lifestyle changes with an emphasis on fun and making new friends.

“The sessions involve a mix of cookery and food tasting, games and quizzes and varied physical activities to suit the needs of those taking part.”

The two clubs give people the option to choose a preferred evening or venue.

Places at the clubs need to be booked in advance.
