Local MP tours The Northumbria hospital

Visit by Alan Campbell MP to see how staff are coping on the NHS’ front line and see changes that make the hospital one of England’s best

Tynemouth MP Alan Campbell recently visited The Northumbria hospital in Cramlington to see how NHS staff at work in one of the country’s newest, and best performing, hospitals.

On a tour including the emergency department (ED), critical care, surgery, birthing centre and the newly opened library and medical education centre the MP was introduced to staff and given first-hand demonstrations of the latest technology.

Recent modifications to the three-year-old facility – which have helped see it regularly compete for first place in national target tables – such as a new triage system in ED were of particular note. Staff also set out plans for the hospital’s immediate future, including winter preparations and the construction of a new ambulatory care centre.

Alan Campbell MP said:

“I was pleased to visit the Northumbria hospital to see at first-hand how the new facility is literally saving lives.  The state of the art equipment and the purpose-built space allows staff to deliver the highest standards of professional healthcare.   I’d like to put on record my thanks to the staff for all that they do.”

Marion Dickson, Chief Operating Officer for Surgery Clinical Support and Child Health at Northumbria Healthcare said:

“It’s always appreciated when an MP visits as it helps them gain an insight to the realities of the modern NHS. It’s also fantastic for our staff to see that their local representatives care about them and are engaged with their local hospitals.

“We look forward to welcoming Alan back again soon.”
