Live choir performance at Hexham hospital to mark NHS’ birthday
As part of this year’s NHS birthday celebrations, the Hexham Male Voice Choir will be performing at Hexham General Hospital on Wednesday 3 July from 11am to noon.
The concert, in the atrium outside the hospital volunteer shop and café, is part of celebrations across the country as people come together to mark the founding of the NHS on 5 July 1948 and raise funds to support the work of its charities.
Brenda Longstaff, head of Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust’s Bright charity, said: “We are thrilled to have the Hexham Male Voice Choir perform at the hospital and are very much looking forward to the concert. It’s a free concert open to all – please do come along and join us.”
The concert will be the choir’s first performance at the hospital and will feature numbers from its diverse repertoire which includes traditional male voice pieces, songs from the stage musicals and popular music.
Stephen Redhead, chairman of the choir, said: “We are delighted to be taking part in the celebrations, as it happens our choir was formed in 1948 – the same year that the NHS was created.
“We are very much looking forward to the concert. We have not performed at the hospital before and this will give us the opportunity to promote the increasingly recognised therapeutic values of music and singing.”
Brenda added: “In addition to the concert, we are backing the national NHS ‘Let’s raise a cuppa’ BigTea campaign throughout July, which is encouraging people to get together and hold a tea party to raise funds for their local NHS charities.
“We are very grateful for the generosity and kindness of all of our donors and fundraisers who have supported the charity over the years. Every penny raised from the celebrations will make a difference to our patients. So, if you’re proud of our NHS and want to give something back, why not organise a tea party to support your local hospital and raise a toast to our wonderful NHS.”
Northumbria Healthcare’s Bright charity funds a variety of projects and equipment which all have the same aim – to provide the extras which help to ensure patients have the best experience possible, in a welcoming and friendly environment.
