Jenny rises through ranks and encourages more overseas nurses to join Northumbria
A nurse from the Philippines who has spent the past decade caring for patients in North Tyneside and building her career in the North East, is encouraging more overseas nurses in the region to think about joining Northumbria Healthcare.
Nurses living across the North East who have qualified overseas are being invited to find out more about joining one of the country’s top performing NHS foundation trusts at an event to be held later this month.
Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is holding a drop-in session at Cobalt Business Park in North Shields on Tuesday 30 June for those who have trained overseas and are keen to work as a nurse in Northumberland and North Tyneside.
At the event, which runs from 4pm to 7pm, people will be able to find out more about the support available from the trust and the new registration process from the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) – which sets the standards of education and training – that overseas nurses will have to complete.
Jenny Locsin who joined the trust from the Philippines in 2002 is testament to the trust’s commitment to develop its own staff. After gaining her registration from the NMC, over the past ten years she has risen through the ranks from staff nurse, sister to her current position of ward manager on the stroke ward at North Tyneside General Hospital.
Jenny is encouraging nurses like herself who trained overseas, and are currently living in the area, to come along to the event and find out more.
Jenny said: “I thoroughly enjoy my role at Northumbria Healthcare and I am truly grateful for the opportunities that I have been given to me by the trust.
“It’s an excellent trust to work for and although different to working as a nurse back home in the Philippines, the skills I learnt there to practise good patient care remain unchanged, and have stood me in good stead for my career here.
“We would urge anyone who has trained as a nurse overseas and are keen to gain their registration and work for our trust, to come along to find out more.”
Northumbria Healthcare is recognised as among the best trusts in the NHS for delivering the highest standards of care to patients in hospital and in the community and listening to the views of its patients and staff in order to continually improve.
The trust has more than 5,000 nurses who carry out a range of roles across Northumberland and North Tyneside and is renowned for developing its own staff and creating opportunities for career progression.
