Have your say on healthcare and become a public governor

People across Northumberland and North Tyneside are being given the opportunity to have a say on healthcare by becoming a public governor of Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.

The trust is holding elections for local people to become public governors of the organisation in Berwick, Blyth, Hexham, North Shields, North West Tyneside, Wallsend and Wansbeck constituencies.

The role of a public governor is to represent the views of local people and help build links between Northumbria Healthcare and the many communities it serves across Northumberland and North Tyneside.

Northumbria Healthcare covers one of the largest geographical areas in the country and provides hospital and community services in North Tyneside and hospital, community and adult social care services in Northumberland.

People must be a member of the trust before they can put themselves forward as a candidate to become a public governor. Becoming a member is straightforward, open to everybody and can be done by completing an online application form at www.northumbria.nhs.uk/members or calling 0191 203 1296.

Nomination forms to become a public governor of Northumbria Healthcare are available from Electoral Reform Service by calling 0208 889 9203, emailing john.box@electoralreform.co.uk or texting 2FT NH and your name and address to 88802. All completed nominations must be received by 5pm on Tuesday 27 May.

Brian Flood, chairman of Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, said:

“As a foundation trust, we have elected public governors who work closely with us to plan local services and respond to the needs and wishes of our local communities.

“Our public governors are the voice of local people and play an important role in helping shape the delivery of health services across Northumberland and North Tyneside.

“Becoming a governor is local people’s opportunity to have a say on local healthcare and give their views to help us develop our priorities. We’re looking for 15 people across our patch who have a passion for healthcare to get involved.

“I would urge anyone who wants to find out more about Northumbria Healthcare, and the important role they could play as a public governor, to get in touch with our foundation team for an informal chat on 0191 203 1296.

There are two vacancies for public governors in Berwick, three in Blyth, three in Hexham, one in North Shields, two in North West Tyneside, two in Wallsend, and two in Wansbeck constituencies.
