Brian Earley, former Director of Nursing at West Cumbria Hospitals and now a Public Governor for Cumbria Partnerships NHS Foundation Trust, has been involved in health work in Ukraine since 2002 after seeing first-hand the very poor conditions in Uzhgorod Municipal Hospital. Brian initially offered to send redundant equipment but was invited by the Hospital to accompany his donations and visit the hospital again. Since then, Brian has visited Uzhgorod Hospital twice every year, driving as part of a group to supply clinical equipment, clothing and children’s toys for the orphanage.
The donations have included a CT scanner, ultrasound, endoscopy stacks, paediatric ventilators, surgical sets, surgical instruments, air compressors, gloves, uniforms and much, much more. All the equipment is inspected and verified to be fit for purpose and safe, donating only items that “you would be happy to have used on yourself or a member of your family”. Brian is a member of Rotary International which supports this work.
