George donates superhero plaques to thank NHS heroes in their fight against COVID-19
A North Seaton resident has demonstrated his gratitude to the NHS by making two special plaques to be displayed at Wansbeck General and Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care hospitals.
The wooden plaques, which mark the significant efforts of all NHS workers in the fight against coronavirus, were made by George Turnbull who wants to show his appreciation for what the NHS has done for him and is currently doing during the pandemic.
Each plaque has a thank you message engraved on them using a process known as routing. The message reads: ‘To the NHS, from cleaners to surgeons, ambulance drivers to pharmacists, porters to kitchen staff and everyone in between…thank you.’
George, 61, is an ex-army man who recently returned to the region after working and living in Germany. It means a lot to him to be able to show his appreciation for his local NHS, having previously received healthcare from Northumbria Healthcare.
George said: “The staff who work for Northumbria Healthcare have always been wonderful when myself or a family member has needed care. They do a fantastic job and I wanted to show them how much they are appreciated.
“I want to make sure everybody who is working tirelessly behind the scenes also gets the recognition they deserve. The cleaners, porters, administration, catering staff and everyone in between, all do such an amazing job and I am sure I am not alone in sharing my thanks with each and every one of them during this difficult time.”
Veronica Gingell, general manager in estates and facilities at Northumbria Healthcare, said: “We have been blown away by the support of the public, local communities and businesses during these unprecedented times and we are so appreciative. The fact that George has taken the time to thank our staff in this very thoughtful and creative way means so much.
“It is great to see that George has recognised a lot of our unsung heroes as this what we are currently going through requires a huge team effort and everyone at the trust is playing an important part. We are very much looking forward to displaying Georges plaques.”
