Find out more about hospital pharmacy

Young people interested in pursuing a career in hospital pharmacy are finding out more at North Tyneside General Hospital next week.

Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is holding an open evening to raise awareness among teenagers at school or college of the various careers available in hospital pharmacy.

The event will showcase how the Trust’s pharmacy department is responsible for ensuring the safe and effective use of medicines for patients who are admitted to hospitals in Northumberland and North Tyneside.

The event is on Thursday, October 11.

Dr Wasim Baqir, pharmacy pre-registration manager at the Trust, said: “This event will give young people an insight into the various careers which are available in hospital pharmacy.

“Our innovative, pioneering pharmacy department is integral to the running of our hospitals across Northumberland and North Tyneside and delivers a high-quality service for patients.

“Working in the Trust’s pharmacy department is a rewarding career with excellent opportunities for staff development.”

At the event, young people will be able to tour the hospital’s pharmacy department and see the dispensing robot – an automated dispensing assistant – which is simplifying and speeding up the way the department stores and dispenses medicines.

They will also be able to talk to the range of staff who carry out different roles in the department.
