Early Christmas present for North Tyneside’s young patients

Children at North Tyneside General Hospital were today given an early Christmas present from footballers from Newcastle United.

The players visited the hospital and gave Christmas gifts to youngsters in the Children’s Ward and Children’s Assessment Unit as part of festive celebrations at Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.

The visit, which featured footballers Loic Remy, Steven Taylor and Gael Bigirimana, went down a treat with young patients, their families and staff.

Elizabeth Meakin, sister on the Children’s Ward, said: “The whole ward really looks forward to the footballers coming in and we’re really grateful that they took the time to visit our hospital.

“Being in hospital at this time of year can be difficult for children and Newcastle United’s visit is a fantastic treat and really puts a smile on their faces.”

A spokesman for Newcastle United Football Club said: “Newcastle United are delighted to come along to the local hospitals and bring a bit of Christmas cheer to children who are unfortunate enough to find themselves in hospital at this time of year.

“It’s something the players look forward to and really enjoy.”
