We provide specialist treatment for people living with dementia in North Tyneside usually in their own homes and also at our day hospital, memory clinic or North Tyneside General Hospital and in care homes.

Hospital Services

Tynemouth Court North Shields

Hospital care for people living with dementia who are primarily over the age of 65. This includes assessment and treatment for people whom due to the complex behavioural symptoms relating to dementia may require an extended period of hospital care.

Behaviour Support Service

Support for people with dementia who display behavioural and psychological symptoms that causes them distress, or poses a risk to them and others. The service supports people living in care homes in North Tyneside, and staying in Tynemouth Court and Ward 19. It is not currently available to people living in their own home. Please note you need to be referred by your care home, GP or social worker.

Nursing and Residential Home Liaison

Supports people over the age of 65 living in care homes in North Tyneside, experiencing mental health problems including dementia. The team provide education and advice about a range of issues including end of life dementia care and delirium. Please note you need to be referred by your GP, care home or social worker.

Ward 19 North Tyneside General Hospital

Hospital treatment and assessment for people over 65 diagnosed with dementia whose condition has worsened suddenly.

Services in the community

The Early Onset Dementia Service

Community health services for people under 65 years diagnosed with dementia living in North Tyneside.  This team consists of a community psychiatric nurse and support worker with input from a consultant psychiatrist and a consultant psychologist. Once you have been referred by your GP, the team will work with you to develop a plan of care and treatment.

Priory Day Hospital

Out patient service including assessment, treatment  and monitoring of patients with mental health problems, such as memory impairment, depression, and anxiety, including dementia.

Memory Clinic

Outpatient service at Priory Day Hospital including the assessment and treatment of memory problems associated with dementia. Includes support for families. Please note you need to be referred by your GP to access the service.

Courses

We deliver courses at the Priory Day Hospital for people with dementia and family carers in North Tyneside. Our Carers Information Group is a six week course delivered one evening a week, and runs twice a year. The Memory Strategy Group is a six week course, one afternoon a week for carers and people with dementia which is repeated throughout the year with new starters every six weeks.
